The Unit of Medical Technology and Intelligent Information Systems has been carrying out significant research on the following domains:

Modelling of Biological Tissues and Systems

Development of computational models of biological tissues and systems extends from hard tissues (bones) to simulate ultrasound propagation in healing bone and soft tissues (arteries) to study the development of plaque to biological systems, such as metabolic models for glucose control and prediction.

Bioinformatics

Our current research in this domain includes Protein Structure Prediction, Chromosome Image Analysis, Microarray Image and Data Analysis, and Prediction of the Peptide Bond Conformation

Automated Diagnosis

Research is carried out on the use of intelligent image and signal analysis techniques to address numerous problems, the majority of which are associated with a disease or a medical condition. The aim is to construct decision support systems and provide automated diagnosis focusing on problems ranging from heart diseases and medical image analysis to car driver’s status assessment.

Patient Monitoring Systems

This broad domain includes the development and validation of state-of-the-art telemedicine systems for the monitoring of patients with chronic diseases, patients rehabilitating after skeletal traumas or sports injuries, and people needing special care such as pregnant women or subjects with phobias.

Biomagnetism

Feasibility studies on novel applications including magnetic drug targeting and silicone ferrofluid internal tamponades for retina detachment treatment.
